It is hard to choose the most romantic restaurants in Dubrovnik because almost all of them have a dreamy ambiance. In many restaurants you are facing the sea, dining in the outdoors, eating excellent fresh seafood. Dubrovnik is a relatively large city, however the part you want to visit is “the Old City”. It is very small. Don’t make the mistake of booking a hotel that is too far away from the Old City otherwise you will spend the most of your time and money in a bus or taxi trying to get to the main attraction. What are Dubrovnik’s main romantic attractions?
- The old city’s white marble street known as Stradun, a broad pedestrian promenade.
- Enormous walls with 14 towers and a fortress, and reaching 75 feet into the air at some points.
There are two main entrances to Dubrovnik old town:
- Ploce gate is at the eastern end of the Old City and it is accepted as the most prestigious residential area of Dubrovnik. Beautiful gardens, charming villas, wonderful beaches and the best view to the Old Town are the characteristics that are describing Ploce the best. The most eminent hotels in Dubrovnik are located at Ploce.
- Pile gate is at the northeast corner of the old center and near a small port area. The Gate dates from the early 14th Century where stands a statue of St Blaise, the Dubrovnik’s patron.
If you are planning to visit Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic see, here are some of the most attractive and romantic restaurants:
The best romantic restaurants in Dubrovnik are Rustica and Nautika. Rustica is in hotel Excelsior, which is a 5-10 min walk from the Ploce gate ( the main entrance of the Old Town). It is an Italian restaurant. You dine on a terrace with great views of the Old Town. Reservations recommended. Hotel Excelsior can arrange special wedding events in the Restaurant Zagreb, Taverna Rustica and The Terrace of the Palms or in other locations in the city, such as Revelin Fortress, Sponza palace or Lovrijenac fortress.
Nautika is considered the “best restaurant in Dubrovnik” and it is where Pope John Paul II dined during his visit to Dubrovnik. The restaurant is near the Pile gate to the Old Town and it boasts views on the Old Town walls and Lovrijenac fortress. The seafood and service is first class. Reservations recommended.
The romantic restaurant Victoria is probably the prettiest restaurant I have ever been to. The eye-catching view of Dubrovnik’s walled Old Town is unmatched, and the elegant, flower-decorated terrace is gorgeous. You can have a very romantic dinner here while the sun is setting over Old Town and the Adriatic. What could be more romantic?
Ekvinocijo restaurant. I recommend this excellent little restaurant, which sits in the shadow of a high city wall along the sea.
Riva restaurant. If you want something special, then go to Riva, where you will find excellent service, an extensive menu, and a beautiful setting just a few steps away from the harbor. The fish specialties are as good as you would expect, but they also have a great selection of meats.
If George Bernard Shaw was delighted by this beautiful city and for him, it was a paradise, I hope you will find something memorable in this “gem of the Adriatic”
